Lostwithiel Town Council is delighted to announce that earlier today pupils from both St Winnow and Lostwithiel Primary School helped Lostwithiel Town Council, the Environment Agency and the Duchy of Cornwall plant a Community Orchard of 60 trees at Second Island Park. ……………….

With effect from next week Lostwithiel Library will only be open on Wednesdays 10-12 & 2-4pm to give customers a weekly opportunity to come to the library to exchange/collect books. Until we are advised otherwise we’d like for customers to have the opportunity to stockpile books to read whilst at home.

In accordance with Government advice Lostwithiel Library and all Lostwithiel Town Council play areas are now closed until further notice. Mayor Hughes has the following message for Lostwithiel 'We are truly in unprecedented times, I urge you all to follow the very clear advice given by Government.'

In line with Government restrictions all Library sites are now closed, and the mobile library service has ceased until further notice. Library members who have books or other materials on loan should keep them at home. They can be renewed as many times as needed online www.cornwall.gov.uk/library or on the 24 hour telephone line 0845 6076119 (please check your contract for charges to 0845 numbers). But overdue charges will be waived during this time.

The Council wishes to advise that the Second Island walkway is closed as the wire covering the walkway is damaged and is a trip hazard. This popular route will reopen as soon as the current situation will allow.

As you know, 7 weeks ago both St Winnow and Lostwithiel Primary School helped Lostwithiel Town Council, the Environment Agency and the Duchy of Cornwall plant a Community Orchard of 60 trees at Second Island Park. We are glad to report that all the trees are thriving and are now in blossom!

Devon & Cornwall Police have asked Lostwithiel Town Council to close the picnic area by the river just off The Parade. The Police have received complaints that people are congregating there. Please follow Government advice - Stay at home, Protect the NHS, Save lives.

We are sorry if we have caused any confusion regarding the specific area that was closed on Wednesday. It is only the picnic benches on the area just off the parade that have been closed at the request of the Police. These benches are in a lovely location and it has been hard for some people to maintain a social distance there. All the parks and other benches in Lostwithiel (excluding the play areas and the skatepark) remain open for use by residents. Please enjoy our wonderful large parks and riverside, whilst out for your daily exercise and trips to the shops.

In recent weeks, the sharp eyed amongst you may have noticed, a brand new, red bus running through Lostwithiel. After many years campaigning by the Town Forum and Town Council, Lostwithiel now has a regular bus service instigated by Cornwall Council under their Transport for Cornwall initiative. This service operates 6 times a day, Monday to Saturday between Lostwithiel and St Austell via Tywardreath Highway, and some services also serving Luxulyan. Holders of the Bus Pass can use it on this service, please see attached timetable. If anyone has any feedback, please let us know.

Did you know that you can now start this year’s Summer Reading Challenge online. You can sign yourself and your child up for a ‘virtual’ edition of the Summer Reading Challenge through the link below. Unfortunately, Lostwithiel Library is currently closed (please watch this space for announcements on our reopening), however books can be accessed on borrowbox and you can reread favourite books that you have at home. Rewards can be unlocked online and children can also take part in online quizzes, competitions and puzzles.

The next Council meeting has been brought forward to 28 July and Council will be reviewing all Covid -19 the risk assessments at this meeting. Lostwithiel Town Council has taken the very difficult decision, owing to the current pandemic and in light of the risks posed not to organise a Remembrance Sunday Parade or an Act of Remembrance at the War Memorial at 11am on Sunday 08 November. All wreaths bearers will be invited to lay their wreaths at the War Memorial and this short laying of wreaths ceremony will be recorded and made available on Lostwithiel social media sites before 11am on Remembrance Sunday.

From Network Rail – Network Rail have contracted R&W to undertake the replacement and repair of the River Fowey Viaduct, in order to improve the longevity of the structure. As you will know this viaduct is situated over the River Fowey, southwest of Lostwithiel station. The majority of the work will be undertaken between the 13 and 29 March 2021, when the railway will be closed. During this time we will be working 24/7 and we apologise for any disturbance we may cause.
